Figureworks 2019 Finalists Announced

Figureworks, an Ottawa-based art prize with a growing international reputation, has revealed the 35 artist finalists selected for its 10th show. This year the prize received a record 530 entries from 346 artists located across Canada and internationally.

Since it first began in 2010, Figureworks has been a leader in cultivating and exhibiting art of the human form. Over the past ten years, the Figureworks Prize has grown significantly, providing hundreds of artists from Ottawa and around the world the opportunity to exhibit works of the human form in their medium of choice within a safe and accepting environment.

The 2019 finalists were selected from a distinguished jury who bring a depth and breadth of experience across art forms:  Michael Davidge, Andrew Morrow, and Joanne Stober..


This year's selected finalists are:


Andrew Ackerman, Durrah Alsaif, Nima Arabi, Kendall Ayoub-Nichols, Steven Bradbury, Robert Creighton, Christine De Vuono, Benjamin Entner, Allison Fagan, Gary Franks, Ao Gao, Brandon Giessmann, Gianni Giuliano, Michael Goodson, Abigail Gossage, Nicci Haynes, John Healey, Horst Herget, Niloo Inalouei, Lindsay Irene, Jason John, Louise Kermode, Patricia La Prairie, Jaymie Lathem, Ava Margueritte, Celeste Marten, Angelina McCormick, Addie Kae Mingilton, Hanna Newman, Rosemarie Peloquin, Tamar Segev, Bonnie Sheckter, Aaron Sidorenko, Mike Steinhauer, and Scott Waters.

The vernissage will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm at Saint Brigid's Centre for the Arts, 310 St. Patrick Street (entrance on Cumberland Street), Ottawa. Awards ceremony at 8 pm with a total of $7,500 being awarded in cash prizes as well as gift vouchers valued at $850 from Rosemary Brushes, SPAO (School of photographic arts: Ottawa), and Wallack’s. New to Figureworks this year is a People’s Choice Award. Voting will take place at the vernissage between 6:00 pm and 7:45 pm. Arrive early to cast a vote. 


The Figureworks show will be open to the public from November 20 until November 30. Complete dates and times listed at www.figureworks.org. Many pieces will be available for purchase with 100 percent of the purchase price going directly to the artists.
